Cup competition history between Mamelodi Sundowns and Siwelele

The last time Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtics met in a Cup final was in 2012 at Moses Mabhida in the Telkom Knockout. It was a controversial night and the goal scored by Botswana international Joel Mogorosi in the 47th minute was enough to give the Siwelele fans a trophy under the then coach, Clinton Larsen.

Masandawana has a big opportunity to avenge what happened eight years ago. This time Siwelele stands in the way of the Brazilians claiming a treble. Siwelele and Masandawana have met six times in Cup competitions and only once in the final. This weekend’s clash will be the second time. Masandawana have won four Cup competitions matches and Siwelele have won twice, once on penalties and then in that controversial game in 2012.

Mamelodi Sundowns have already beaten Celtics this season in the last 8 of the MTN 8 by three goals to one. Themba Zwane, Mosa Lebusa and Keletso Makgalwa were on target for the Brazilians on the day and Ndumiso Mabena scored for Siwelele.

The match takes place on Saturday at Orlando Stadium at 20:00 and will be live on SuperSport channel 202.
