Diski Team Conclude the Season with a Defeat

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Diski Team winning streak has been ended after they lost 2-0 to the Orlando Pirates Reserves on Saturday afternoon at the Dobsonville Stadium.

The hosts had the first opportunity when they triggered a shot from the right flank but Nqobani Biyela tipped the ball away.

Masandawana also had an opportunity on the other side when they were awarded a free-kick. Bennet Mokoena took it but it was smacked away by the keeper.

The biggest chance of the game came from the hosts from the right flank but Biyela came off his mark to collect the ball.

Masandawana also came close to teeing one up through Kabelo Sibande’s cross as he looked to find Mokoena but the effort was intercepted by the Buccaneers.

The hosts finally broke the deadlock through a corner kick after the half-hour mark.

The visitors had a chance to level matters when they were awarded a free-kick. Taken by Mokoena, the shot was smacked by the keeper to deny Downs.

Just before the interval, the referee pointed to the spot in favour of Pirates. The penalty shot taken sent Biyela the opposite direction which saw Bafana Ba Style trailing at the break.

Coach Tiro’s men looked promising in the second half as they looked to turn things around. They were applying more pressure in the final third but Pirates had kept a low block.

The biggest chance for Masandawana came when Thato Sibiya made a perfectly orchestrated cross to find Mokoena. Unmarked and with a clear chance to beat the goalkeeper, Mokoena lost his footing just as he was slitting the ball in, missing the target.

While trying to block the ball from hitting the net, Biyela fouled a player in the box, leading to the referee to point again to the spot. The penalty shot was, however, blocked by Biyela to keep the score at 2-0.

The young Brazilians fought hard to get a goal but were unlucky to not get any, registering their first defeat in 11 games.
