Diski Team Dazzle in 2-0 Victory at Home

Two stunning goals at the Giant Stadium have seen the Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team grab all points on offer against the TS Galaxy Reserves on Saturday afternoon in the DStv Diski Challenge. Onele Rulwana and Bennet Mokoena were the heroes in the 2-0 winner.

Having dropped points last weekend, Masandawana was looking to get the rub of the green while also hitting a double against the Rockets. The hosts looked to dominate very early in the game, with the first big chance coming from their side, but it went slightly wide.

The Downs goalkeeper, Zakhele Shabangu, was sent to work twice by the visitors. With the first shot, he thought on his feet quickly and came out of his box to make a save. With the second, he did the same and, in the process, got booked after fouling a player to deny him a goal.

Just after the hour mark, the Galaxy goalkeeper was given marching orders, leaving the visitors with ten men inside the pitch. As Downs continued to create chances, a big chance was kicked out and saw them get awarded a corner kick. While taking the corner, there was foul inside the box which saw the referee point to the spot in favour of the hosts. Rulwana took the penalty and opened the scoring. The goal saw Masandawana head to the break with the upper hand.

The Brazilians continued with their dominance in the second half as they looked to extend their lead. A shot came from Rulwana but it wasn’t strong enough as the goalkeeper bucketed it. Another big chance came from substitute, Oarabile Booysen, who made a shot which the goalkeeper blocked with his face.

Galaxy came close to leveling matters in the final stages of the game as they looked more convincing, but defender, Thabo Nkabinde made a big impact with his save to deny them a goal.

A goal almost came for Bafana Ba Style after a mistake made by the keeper. He thought the ball went out after a shot he blocked but the ball rolled toward goal, unfortunately, it didn’t go in as it touched the bar. Eventually, a goal to double their advantage came for Downs in extra time. After substitute Thulani Zandamela was not in the right position to score, he handed the ball to Mokoena who shot a stunner to conclude the game. Masandawana will now prepare for their return fixture against the Kaizer Chiefs Reserves next weekend.
