Diski Team Register First Defeat Against Chiefs Reserves

Mamelodi Subdowns’ Diski Team have registered their first defeat of the season following a 4-2 loss against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at the Dobsonville Stadium. The two first half goals from Simphiwe Mlondo and Lehlohonolo Mahlangu were not enough for Downs to pick points up in Soweto.

Three minutes in, Masandawana almost broke the deadlock through a tap-in by Mlondo but the keeper came off his line to clear the good chance. A few minutes later, a similar scoring opportunity was created but again, the keeper punched it away.

On the 17th minute, after plenty of half chances created, Bafana Ba Style broke the deadlock through Mlondo.

Twenty minutes into the game, the hosts were awarded a free-kick after a foul near the box. The kick was, however, caught by Downs keeper, Ethan Garcia.

Chiefs almost levelled matters when they placed the ball inside the box but luckily Junaid Seedat cleared the dangerous ball.

On the 41st minute, Masandawana doubled their advantage and this time, through Mahalangu. Kamohelo Mareletse drove the ball to the right flank and made a cut-back which was found by Mahlangu who punched it past the keeper.

Amakhosi looked for a goal before the interval but the Downs keeper kept denying them. This saw the Pretoria-based side heading to the break with a two-goal lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Chiefs pulled one back after finding the farpost as they looked to close the gap.

Mareletse tried to hit back when Kabelo Sibande delivered the ball to him on the edge of the box. Mareletse fired a shot but it went wide.

On the 63rd minute, Sundowns almost found the back of the net when Karabo Modikwe delivered the ball to Khulekani Nxumalo through a cut-back. Nxumalo’s effort, however, sailed over the bar.

Four minutes later, the hosts levelled matters following a an error made the visitors. The hosts managed to drive it to the area to find the back of the net.

On the 75th minute, Chiefs snatched the lead after shooting from the right flank to find the backpost, making it three.

In the closing minutes of the match, a foul inside the box led to the referee pointing to the spot in favour of the hosts. The penalty kick found the back of the net to make it four goals for them.

Despite searching deep for a goal in the late stages of the match, it was not enough for Masandawana to fight for points.
