Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will make the trip to Gqeberha on Sunday as they look to continue their perfect start to the 2026 Hollywoodbets Super League campaign when they take on Richmond United at Westbourne Oval.
Banyana Ba Style have won all nine of their league matches so far this season and will enter the encounter with their confidence high following last weekend’s commanding 4–0 victory over Copperbelt Ladies. The Champions have also been outstanding defensively, keeping a clean sheet in every league match this season and extending their remarkable run to 15 consecutive league clean sheets.
The upcoming fixture will be a second meeting between the two sides this season, with Sundowns already securing a convincing 5–0 victory when the teams met earlier in the campaign. Lelona Daweti, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Lebohang Ramalepe, Noxolo Cesane and Boitumelo Rabale were all on the scoresheet on that occasion.
However, the previous result will not change Sundowns’ approach as they prepare for another league assignment. With the season progressing and the CAF Women’s Champions League also on the horizon, every match provides the Champions with another opportunity to maintain their standards, strengthen their consistency and continue building as a team.
For Sikelelwa Mhlanga, the positive atmosphere within the squad has been an important part of Sundowns’ strong run, with the players making a conscious effort to build unity both on and off the pitch.
“The mood in the team is very good. We are a group that enjoys spending time together and doing things together because those moments help us to build our team spirit. We want to continue having that togetherness because it is something that helps us when we step onto the field and face difficult moments in games.”
With the CAF Women’s Champions League representing another major task ahead, Mhlanga believes the team cannot afford to take any league fixture lightly.
“It is very important for us to take every game seriously because every match gives us something that we need as a team. We cannot look at an opponent and think that because of what happened in a previous game, the next match will automatically be easy. We have to respect every opponent, prepare properly and make sure that we give our best whenever we play. These games are also important for us because we want to be ready for any opponent we may face in the CAF Champions League.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Richmond United will take place on Sunday, 4 October 2026, at Westbourne Oval in Gqeberha, with kick-off at 09:00.
