Downs On CAF Duty This Weekend

Mamelodi Sundowns are just two matches away from reaching the CAF Champions League group stages as they lock horns with Cote d’ Or Football Club having left for the island of Seychelles earlier this week.

The Brazilians had to fight back to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the preliminary round of the continental tournament against Congolese outfit AS Otoho last month after a 4-0 drubbing that guaranteed coach Pitso Mosimane’s side progressed.

Should they beat Côte d’Or over two legs this month, Sundowns will then go into the group stages of the Champions League, something which is of familiar territory as 2016 titleholders and last year’s semifinalists.

The away leg will be played on Saturday afternoon, but will not be televised.

On the match, Mosimane said: “We expect a difficult game tomorrow and on paper we are favourites, but on the pitch it’s 11 against 11. It’s about who wants it more and in situations like this it is us who suffer because we think we are better on paper. The match is about playing for the badge, the name and integrity.”

Sundowns further confirmed the travelling squad this week, with young Harold Majadibodu among a list of players eager to make their CAF debut.

Full squad for the game against Cote d’ Or as follows

Goalkeepers: Reyaad Pieterse, Kennedy Mweene, Denis Onyango

Defenders: Wayne Arendse, Motjeka Madisha, Anele Ngcongca, Mosa Lebusa, Tebogo Langerman, Bangaly Soumahoro, Harold Majadibodu

Midfielders: Andile Jali, Hlompho Kekana, Oupa Manyisa, Themba Zwane, Tiyani Mabunda, Lyle Lakay, Sphelele Mkhulise, Lebohang Maboe, Aubrey Ngoma

Strikers: Jose Ali Meza, Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi

All the Best Masandawana! start by playing football and then do your nice passing game after. l feel we will get our first win away today. This match must be taken very seriously , a win away will then give us options at home without pressure.KBY

We need to be conscious when we deploy our troops, we need to deploy more tried and tested and a few fringe players so that we maintain shape and character, otherwise KBY.

Very disappointed with Supersport that they have not bothered to televise any of Sundowns’ away Champions League games this season. Anyway, we are expecting a win today. The line up is very experimental and I hope Coach Pitso is not taking the opponents too lightly. I also feel that if Coach Pitso wants to introduce fringe players, he needs to introduce 1 or 2 on an already winning side, not the line-up put out today.

    All the best Masandawana
