Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the semifinals of the MTN8 after coming from a goal down to beat Bloemfontein Celtic 3-1 on Saturday night.
The visitors took the lead not long after both sides returned for the second half with striker and captain Ndumiso Mabena beautifully curling his free kick past goalkeeper Denis Onyango to put Sundowns on the back foot.
But the Brazilians did not go into a shell and instead stepped things up by a gear and were eventually rewarded. Themba Zwane, who was eventually voted Man of the Match, scored the equaliser in the 74th minute.
‘Mshishi’ levelled matters thanks to a penalty kick after substitute Keletso Makgalwa was cluttered into by Celtic’s Lucky Baloyi and the referee pointed to the spot. It didn’t take long before Downs assumed the lead for the first time.
Five minutes after the equaliser, Mosa Lebusa headed home a second having connected well with a ball sent in by Rivaldo Coetzee from a set piece. Then in the dying minutes, Makgalwa also got on the score sheet when his solo run paid off.
The forward received a pass just outside the penalty box from Thapelo Morena and decided to go at it alone – his end product, a clever toe-poke, going past goalkeeper Sipho Chaine with ease to make 3-1 to Sundowns.
