First Team And Ladies Team Extend Streaks, Diski Team Suffer Final Defeat

This past weekend was yet another action-packed one across all competitions for Mamelodi Sundowns. A draw in the DStv Premiership ensured that the first team remained the only unbeaten away team in the Premier Soccer League this season while the Reserve team suffered a defeat in the DStv Diski Rewired finals on Sunday. The Ladies were victorious on their travels as they continued to dominate in the  Super League.

The first team played their twenty eighth league game against Swallows FC on Saturday and were looking to collect maximum points going into the encounter, however, points were shared between the two teams when the game ended in a goalless draw.  This is the second draw in the league between the two sides which showed competitiveness and aggression as numerous fouls were on display in the match causing frustrations on both sides of the team. Goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse made his first start of the season and was on hand to keep a clean sheet, earning him praise from Coach Manqoba Mngqithi after the match. The result extends the gap at the top of the table to eleven points and Masandawana will be looking to extend that gap in the remaining two fixtures.

The DStv Diski Rewired tournament came to an end on Sunday and the Brazilian’s Reserve team fought it out till the end when they faced Amazulu FC in the final at the FNB stadium. As has been the case the whole season, the young Brazilians showed immense character and fight as they resisted pressure from the KZN based team but their efforts were not enough to stop Amazulu who scored two goals in this encounter to win this season’s Diski Rewired competition.

The Ladies team continued doing what they do best when they arrived in Bloemfontein as they claimed yet another victory in the Hollywoodbets Super League against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies. Boitumelo Rabale and Mary Ntsweng scored two late goals in the second half to end the host’s run of three consecutive wins.
