The past few days have been filled with a cloud of darkness as Mamelodi Sundowns has lost one of its sons Anele Ngcongca in a tragic car accident on Monday morning.
However, yesterday Captain Hlompho Kekana was nominated for the Puskas award. The award is given to the best goal scored in that year at the Best FIFA Football Awards. The strike that got the nod for “Gonzales” was the one against Cape Town City in August 2019. The same goal won the PSL Goal of the Season.
This is not the first time the Masandawana skipper has been nominated for the Puskas award, in 2016 he was also part of this prestigious group, he lost out to Malaysian striker Mohd Faiz Subri. In this year’s award, he is up against Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez as well as Son Heung-Min from South Korea.
The Zebediela born took to his social media and dedicated the nomination to the fallen hero Anele Ngcongca.
As a club we are still mourning the loss of our brother. In training we feel it. Amidst the sadness, it is difficult to process this and I have to dedicate this nomination to my brother #16 Anele Ngcongca 🙏🏿 https://t.co/UmzdhH7ysK
