Mamelodi Sundowns will be crowned Champions of South Africa on Saturday in the DStv Premiership after their final league clash with Royal AM.
Masandawana are looking to finish their league championship-winning campaign in style away from home on the last day of the 2021/22 Premier Soccer League. The Brazilian’s new kid on the block Teboho Mokoena is amongst the stars that will get to lift the PSL trophy for the first time in their professional careers, Mokoena expressed his excitement for the weekend that awaits:
“Firstly I must thank Mamelodi Sundowns for giving me this opportunity. I am very happy to be lifting the DStv Premiership title on Saturday in Durban. It’s my proudest moment in my life and I’ve been looking forward to winning the league and now I will be doing it with Mamelodi Sundowns, I’m very very happy.”
“Personally, this trophy means that I need to win more league titles, because this is the first of many more to come. I need to win more league titles for Mamelodi Sundowns, I am definitely looking forward to the next season.”
The 25-year-old midfield maestro joined Bafana Ba Style at the beginning of 2022 and was regarded as one of the biggest signings in recent years. Mokoena featured in the colors of The Brazilians almost instantly after his signing and settled in smoothly alongside his former teammates Grant Kekana and Aubrey Modiba. Mokoena’s first goal for Downs followed a month later in Masandawana’s 2-0 victory against Chippa United, Mokoena picked up the ball 25m from goal and struck a blasting shot on target that took a slight deflection into goal.
“My season so far is ok. I found the guys in the middle of the season already and they had already done the best for the team and I joined in January. There’s other things which I need to improve on going into the next season, and I know which are those things to improve in my game and what will help me more going into the next season. I am enjoying myself at Mamelodi Sundowns and looking forward to the next season.”
Mamelodi Sundowns take on Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium in their last league match of the season before turning their attention to the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants next weekend in Rustenburg.
