It’s a good feeling to be nominated – Grant Kekana

Mamelodi Sundowns dominated the nominees list for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) end-of-season awards with representatives across seven categories and a total of 14 nominations.

The PSL announced the nominees where Grant Kekana had a stellar season with Masandawana playing as a center half and full back. Kekana joined the Tshwane giants in July of 2021 and has been instrumental in leading the team from the back with his fellow mates to concede the least number of goals in the domestic league with a total of 18 goals scored against Downs this season.

“It’s a good feeling to be nominated for defender of the season. I feel really honored and humbled also. It also goes to show the effort that the team has put in this season. I think we’ve had a relatively good season and we should be proud of ourselves.” Kekana responded to his nominee.

The 29-year-old has become a regular in The Brazilians’ squad in his first season at Chloorkop and has played 23 DStv Premiership games prior to his nomination. Kekana is joined by his  teammate and free kick specialist Lyle Lakay in the ‘defender of the season’ nominee category. Kekana applauded his mate and the Masandawana squad for their dominance in this year’s campaign.

“Even with Lyle his numbers are amazing, he’s been exceptional for us and also it’s really a good feeling to know that the team is being recognized for what they’ve been doing this past season and it’s something that will help us in the long run to build on from. This season we are dominating the nominees category and we obviously want to maintain that.”

The awards will be held in a virtual ceremony on Sunday, 29 May at 7pm and will be broadcast live on the SuperSport PSL channel (202) and SABC.
