Masandawana Earn Honours At DStv Premiership Award Ceremony

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena as well as striker Peter Shalulile were rewarded for their contributions to Masandawana’s strong start to the season as they received their DStv Premiership awards at the ceremony held at Chloorkop today.

After going undefeated to begin their campaign, Mngqithi and Mokwena were awarded Coach of the month for August/September whilst Shalulile took home the Player of the month accolade.

Reacting to the awards, Coach Rulani Mokwena shared a message of congratulations to all the members of the club who were involved in contributing to the teams’ early season success: “Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns in its entirety, the football club which we represent. Congratulations to my colleague Coach Manqoba also on winning the award and congratulations to the rest of the technical staff who have made an immense contribution to the good results so far.”

Coach Manqoba echoed the sentiments of congratulations and said that the award was the result of the winning mentality that exists throughout the whole club: “The truth of the matter is that this is a collective effort, we are just the recipients. Without everyone that surrounds us. A club like Mamelodi Sundowns ticks because of a group of people working towards one goal which is to win – to win every training session, every friendly match, and to win every match.”

Masandawana’s early season record of 5 wins and 1 draw, whilst keeping 6 clean sheets in the league has seen them sky rocket to the summit of the DStv Premiership table with 16 points from a possible 18.

The consistent striker Shalulile was voted as the outstanding player for the monthly award, competing with Royal AM’s goal scoring Victor Letsoalo, who sits on the same amount of goals as the Namibian international. Shalulile’s impressive tally in front of goals, six appearances and five goals has him leading the charge for top goalscoring honours at the end of the season.

“I am still the same Peter that gives 150% at training, doing extra work and listening more to the coaches. My target for this season is to end everything on a high note with the team, to do good and hopefully score more goals like I did in the previous season.”
