Masandawana End Off #DStvPrem Travels With A Win Over Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns registered an away win in their penultimate DStv Premiership game of the season as they overcame a tough Marumo Gallants outfit 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

The Brazilians got off to the best possible start as Thapelo Morena latched onto the pass from Themba Zwane before lobbing the ball over Washington Arubi in the Marumo Gallants goal to open the scoring in just twenty-five seconds. The goal beat the clock to go down as the fastest goal in the league this season.

After their blistering start The Brazilians looked to control proceedings as they took control of possession in the Gallants half and began to play their slick passing game. Chances were few and far between as Downs looked to double their lead.

Peter Shalulile found a pocket of space in the box and struck first time but saw his effort saved by Arubi who rushed off his line to deny the Namibian. Neo Maema was next to have a go this time with a curled effort from the edge of the box however the midfielder could not keep his effort on target.

The Brazilians held onto their lead and went into the halftime break a goal to the good. The technical team made one change

Masandwana were able to double their lead within ten minutes of the restart as Zwane bundled home the rebounded shot after Arubi saved the header from Shalulile.

With Masandawana leading comfortably on the night the home side began to grow more and more into the game and managed to create a few chances. However their efforts were met and matched by a dogged Ronwen Williams in the Downs goal who made a number of stops on his way to another league clean sheet – his 18th in the league and a new PSL record.

With the game entering its closing stages, Coach Rulani sent on more substitutes in search of maintaining control as Haashim Domingo, Lebohang Maboe, Bongani Zungu and Gaston Sirino entered the fray.

Domingo and Sirino both came close to registering their names on the scoresheet as they had their shots saved by Arubi who added to his number of saves as the game went on.

The result ended in favour of The Brazilians who marched on in the DStv Premiership with a win in their penultimate game of the league campaign. Up next, The team from Chloorkop will be packing up their suitcases and gearing up for the journey to Morocco for CAF Champions League duty.
