Ahead of our game against AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday, coach Pitso Mosimane has been talking about the impact of winning the cup for Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Brazilians got a home draw to host Usuthu in the last 16 of the competition, which gets underway this weekend.
“This trophy is important for a few reasons. It’s for our supporters, to create confidence in the club and to win a trophy. We run a very ambitious and sophisticated programme and it’s influenced by our targets. We have sleepless nights and there is pressure to analyse the games that are coming. In football there’s nothing like luck, when you coach a team like Mamelodi Sundowns your social life is zero. There’s more heat at Sundowns,” Mosimane said during his press conference on Thursday.
He gave some insight on his thoughts about the upcoming fixture against AmaZulu, who he says are well rested after the Fifa break.
“You are expected to win the Champions League and the domestic league at Sundowns. The AmaZulu game is a big game, one we are expected to win. The Telkom cup comes within our Champions League and PSL schedule, which means its complex and forces us to have games in hand. AmaZulu have a new coach now and in all those games they have played so far they could have got something out of all of them, but they were able to beat Cape Town City. You can see the influence of the new coach as well, so it won’t be an easy game,” Mosimane said.
