Mamelodi Sundowns have another opportunity to bring in another trophy this weekend as they take on Bloemfontein Celtics in the Nedbank Cup Final. The Brazilians have already won the Telkom Knockout and the League championship.
The draw for the last-32 was done and saw Masandawana pitted against SuperSport United. The game took place at Loftus Versfeld and the Brazilians were victorious, winning by a goal to zero. The goal was scored by Sibusiso Vilakazi. This was also the game where Thapelo Morena got injured and subsequently spent months on the sidelines.
The Nedbank Cup is known as the cup competition that pits professional clubs with amateur teams and in the last 16 the Brazilians took on Vaal University of Technology at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Masandawana gave the fourth tier side some football lessons and won the clash by two goals to zero and made it through to the last eight.
Highlands Park was next in the last eight. The Brazilians made the trip to Tembisa and needed extra time to beat Highlands. It took some great footwork and composure from Keletso Makgalwa to book a place in the last four.
After months of no football due to the lockdown, football returned and the first task was a clash with Bidvest Wits at Orlando Stadium. It was under unfamiliar conditions as there were no fans allowed. The five-goal thriller needed a moment of beauty and Lyle Lakay delivered with the last kick of the game to send Masandawana to the final against Bloemfontein Celtics
