Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their ruthless streak as they demolished Coal City Wizards with a 9-0 scoreline in an entertaining Hollywoodbets Super League clash on Sunday at the Puma Stadium in Emalahleni.
A second-half hat-trick from the red-hot Boitumelo Rabale, coupled with braces from Melinda Kgadiete and Chuene Morifi, and further strikes from Regina Mogolola and Miche Minnies, ensured that Banyana Ba Style grabbed their biggest win of the season in scintillating fashion.
After scoring seven unreplied goals at the same stadium last season, the Brazilians were eager to replicate that impressive performance. As early as the sixth minute, Kgadiete’s goal set the tone for what was to come.
Despite controlling possession for long periods and creating multiple scoring chances, Sundowns Ladies were unable to add to their early lead until three minutes before halftime when Regina Mogolola scored her first goal of the season, increasing the reigning champions’ advantage to 2-0 at the break.
The floodgates of goals were eventually opened after the restart, with Kgadiete grabbing her second goal eight minutes into the second half. Although Morifi scored a superb double and Minnies netted a fine strike, it was Boitumelo Rabale who stole the show with a 21-minute hat-trick, marking her first treble of the campaign in a comprehensive display of ultra-attacking football.
Fit-again Chuene, who was named Player of the Match, credited Coach Jerry Tshabalala for urging her to improve her goal-scoring productivity.
“I am thrilled with our recent goal-scoring performances, which have undoubtedly boosted our confidence. Personally, scoring twice feels especially satisfying because the coach had emphasized the need for me to improve my finishing skills, and I am grateful for that push. After being sidelined for nearly six weeks due to injury, I feel rejuvenated to be back with the team. Our team’s form is picking up at just the right moment, and I am confident that we will continue to build on this momentum as much as possible,” Morifi stated.
Sedilame Bosija, who sustained a shoulder injury in training and was unable to fully participate in training before the game, kept an impressive clean sheet, which excited her.
“I am delighted with the way we displayed our class in front of goal, as that is what we are known for not only across the country but beyond. Most importantly, we won convincingly without conceding, which means so much to me considering the discomfort I was in just a few days ago,” the goalkeeper stated.
Karabo Dhlamini, who was one of seven players who returned from the Banyana Banyana camp and participated in the clash against Coal City, spoke about the team’s impressive showing.
“On several occasions this season, we have received comments about not scoring enough, but today we silenced those critics with a solid performance. It shows that we have improved as a team. Playing the full game coming from the National Camp meant so much to me. Overall, we fought collectively as a unit, and we are proud of our performance today,” said Dhlamini.
Boitumelo Rabale’s hat-trick takes her tally to 11 goals for the season, making her the top scorer for Sundowns Ladies, while Melinda Kgadiete’s brace brings her total to six goals. Lelona Daweti and Andisiwe Mgcoyi also have four goals each to their name.
Up next for Sundowns Ladies is the mouthwatering table-topping clash against the University of Western Cape (UWC). The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday May 14th, at the Tuks Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 15h00.
