The 4-2 win over JVW FC last time out saw Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies take a giant step towards defending their Hollywoodbets Super League title.
Since The Brazilians suffered a shock 2-0 loss to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Ladies, the response has been emphatic.
Back-to-back 5-1 wins over TUT Ladies Football and Thunderbirds Ladies coupled with consecutive victories against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and JVW FC have sent the continental champions back to the top of the log standings, four points ahead of their nearest challengers.
As Banyana Ba Style prepares to face First Touch Ladies in the 10th round of fixtures, Limpopo-born Regina Mogolola is anticipating a tough battle at the Baroka Village.
“I am very excited ahead of the game because it’s like a homecoming for me. Baroka Village is a venue I know very well and playing there again means so much to me. The game against First Touch Ladies will not be an easy one because the league has been quite unpredictable this campaign. There have been some shocking results since the season began. I am hoping we continue our good run of form at a stadium I call home,” Mogolola stated.
The 4-2 victory against JVW FC meant Sundowns Ladies have now won eight games out of nine played this season with 24 points accumulated. The Chloorkop-side has bagged a league-high 42 goals and has conceded seven times.
Those impressive figures have left Mogolola in high spirits ahead of the midweek clash, “Since we lost that game against UWC, we have been ruthless on both ends of the pitch. We showed our class against the teams that were unbeaten before they faced us. The aim on Wednesday is to pick maximum points against First Touch Ladies but we know they will approach the game with a mindset of halting our impressive run of form. We are optimistic that we will take our chances.”
There was drama in this fixture last season as Sundowns Ladies lost the first leg courtesy of a boardroom decision. However, the Brazilians controlled proceedings in the second leg and ran out 3-1 winners courtesy of a brace from Melinda Kgadiete and a wonder strike from Andisiwe Mgcoyi.
This season, Mgcoyi has been in sensational form and leads the Downs’ goal-scoring chart with 10 strikes to her name. Boitumelo Rabale has scored nine times while Miche Minnies and Rhoda Mulaudzi have both scored four goals apiece.
The fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and First Touch Ladies will take place on Wednesday, 08 June 2022, at the Baroka Village in Lebowakgomo. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00.
