Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies produced yet another statement performance as they overpowered the University of Pretoria with an emphatic 5–0 victory in a Hollywoodbets Super League encounter at the Tuks Main Stadium on Saturday evening.
The game kicked off explosively when Nthabiseng Majiya found the back of the net in the opening minute to hand the Brazilians an early advantage. Banyana Ba Style dominated possession and tempo, with their crisp passing and positional discipline keeping the home side pinned back throughout the first half.
Just after the interval, the game was briefly halted due to a lightning storm, forcing players and officials to seek shelter. Despite the delay, Sundowns Ladies returned to the field with renewed intensity and focus. Their patience and tactical awareness paid off in the 56th minute when the University of Pretoria conceded an own goal under sustained pressure from the visitors.
Moments later, Boitumelo Rabale coolly slotted home Sundowns’ third after a clever build-up. Refilwe Tholakele then added her name to the scoresheet in the 74th minute, converting from the penalty spot to make it 4–0. Noxolo Cesane completed the rout three minutes later with another well-taken penalty, capping a dominant display by Masandawana.
After the match, defender Karabo Makhurubetshi reflected on the team’s impressive form and collective effort.
“We carried the momentum from our winning streak into this game and that really showed in how we approached every phase of play. Matches against Tuks are never easy, as they play with a lot of discipline, but we remained focused on our game plan. We have been emphasizing certain tactical patterns in training, especially around pressing and transitions, and we managed to implement those effectively today.”
Dynamic wingback Lebohang Ramalepe also praised the team’s resilience and mentality amid challenging conditions.
“It was not an easy game at all, but as a team we knew what we wanted to achieve and how important it was to get maximum points. When the match was suspended, we used that time to regroup and remind ourselves of our objectives. Once we returned, we made sure to keep pushing and maintain our intensity. I think what stands out about this group is our hunger, as everyone is driven, from the starters to the bench.”
With this win, Sundowns Ladies have now won their ninth straight game, boasting 19 wins and 2 draws from 23 matches. The team has scored an impressive 61 goals while conceding just seven, making them the side with both the best attack and best defense in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season.
On the goal-scoring chart, Boitumelo Rabale leads the tally with 11 goals, followed closely by Refilwe Tholakele with nine and Nthabiseng Majiya with eight. Melinda Kgadiete and Isabella Ludwig have each contributed seven goals, while Nonhlanhla Mthandi and Noxolo Cesane have both scored six times this season. Munashe Mugwara has netted twice, with Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane and Katleho Malebana each finding the back of the net once.
