Rio Given a Hero’s Welcome

Wayne Arendse or “Rio” as his teammates call him was treated to a hero’s welcome upon his return to the Mother City, a city he grew up in and where he first made a name for himself.

The Western Cape Supporters branch pulled out all the stops, with the team travelling there to take on Stellenbosch in ABSA Premiership.

The event which was organised to show our appreciation for Wayne, was echoed by the supporters who gathered outside the airport as they snapped pics with their hero.

“This was an event to show our appreciation to Wayne for his contribution to the team. Wayne has been at Sundowns for a long time and he has persevered a lot, he never gave up. He was an integral part of the Champions League winning team in 2016, proving his worth to the team once again,” said one supporter.

Walter Gwavava, the Mamelodi Sundowns Western Cape Supporters Treasurer spoke very highly of Rio and the reasoning behind this show of support;

“Wayne has represented the Western Cape so well, he is a role model to young players, not only at Sundowns but across the country. We as Mamelodi Sundowns Supporters branch of the Western Cape are proud of having being represented so well by Wayne. We would like to wish him many more trophies at Sundowns.”

Wayne and the team are in the Mother City to lock horns with Stellenbosch, in a rescheduled fixture and will be looking to pile on the pressure on the log leaders.
