Ronwen Williams Looks Forward to the Bafana Bafana Camp

Mamelodi Sundowns Goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana Captain, Ronwen Williams will be leading the national team to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Morocco in June. Ronwen shared what he’s looking forward to as the squad will report for camp soon.

Bafana Bafana Coach, Hugo Broos announced his 34-man preliminary squad to face the FIFA World Cup semi-finalist which consists of ten (10) Mamelodi Sundowns Players. Broos is said to announce the 23-man final squad soon before the team can go to camp and prepare for the continental football fixture.

Awaiting to go to camp with the national team, Williams expressed his gratitude for continuously being able to represent South Africa in the African continent. “Being part of the national team is still an amazing feeling and I’m honoured to be representing the country. After all this time, it’s still a huge privilege for me to lead the squad. I’m the Captain, so I have the responsibility of leading so many talented football players and big-name players.”

Having already reported on the preliminary squad, Broos disclosed that a reduced pre-camp consisting of local and international-based players that are part of the team will take place from the 31st of May 2023 until the 7th of June. The final squad will go into camp on Sunday,11 June 2023.

“The main thing is to go out there and win. I’m looking forward to giving my best performance and for us as a team to challenge ourselves against Morocco, we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we will ensure that we are well prepared for the game”, said the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season as he touched on the approach for the AFCON qualifier game.

South Afrfroma and Morocco have already qualified for the tournament continental tournament to be held in Côte d’Ivoire from the 13th of January to the 11th of February 2024. Bafana Bafana qualified after they beat Liberia 2-1 in March 2023 which led to them climbing the log in Group K

Bafana Bafana will play against Morocco on the 17th of June 2023 at the FNB Stadium. The AFCON fixture will kick- off at 16h00.
