Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to get back into the win column as they square off against Richmond Ladies at the Sol Plaatjie University Stadium in Kimberly on Saturday, as the 16th round of the Hollywoodbets Super League takes center stage.
The Brazilians were held to a 1-1 draw against Thunderbirds Ladies last time out and will be gunning for a more positive result as they seek to extend their unbeaten streak to eight games since the start of April.
Lehlogonolo ‘Hlogi’ Mashigo has backed the team to respond emphatically on Saturday and put away the disappointing draw last week.
“The game against Richmond provides us with a perfect opportunity to show what we are capable of. Richmond is a solid side, but we have to fight together as a team to achieve the result we are aiming for. Teams are motivated when they play against us, and we are fully aware of the task this Saturday. The match holds great significance for us. It is not just about securing a positive result; it’s about demonstrating our character, resilience and ability to perform under pressure. We have been training hard and we cannot wait to get on the pitch,” Lehlogonolo said.
Hlogi, who found the back of the net against the Northern Cape side last season, is aiming for more of the same this time around.
“I was making my comeback from an injury when I scored that goal against Richmond. The hunger for scoring still burns within me, and if the opportunity presents itself, I will seize it without hesitation on Saturday. This game is of utmost importance, as dropping points is simply not an option. However, it is not solely about my goal-scoring endeavors; it is equally crucial for my teammates to find the back of the net as well. We are all focused on maximizing our offensive output to ensure victory in this crucial match,” Mashigo concluded.
Richmond United comes into this fixture on the back of an impressive 1-1 draw against Royal AM last weekend. Chuene Morifi believes the Northern Cape side must not be taken for granted.
“We anticipate a highly challenging match against an impressive team comprising young, energetic players, led by an experienced coach in women’s football. Their recent game results have undoubtedly fueled their motivation heading into our upcoming encounter. We are well aware of the formidable task that lies ahead and understand the level of intensity and effort required to secure a positive outcome against such a difficult opponent,” Morifi stated.
Chuene, who scored twice against Richmond last season, believes collective victory supersedes any personal goal-scoring record at the moment, “While scoring a goal can be a personal achievement, it is not the primary focus. The ultimate objective is the success of the team and obtaining a positive result. Our main emphasis lies on the collective effort and the overall performance of the team, rather than individual accolades.”
Sundowns Ladies have dominated this fixture in recent times. Last season, the Brazilians beat their opponents 5-0 on home soil and registered a 4-2 victory in the reverse meeting. Banyana Ba Style also registered a 5-1 home win and 5-2 away success in the season before.
The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Richmond Ladies will take place on Sunday, June 3rd, at the Sol Plaatjie University Stadium in Kimberly. The kick-off time is 15:00.
Wishing you all the best…Do not undermine them…. Wear scoring boots and leave missing boots at home … the heat is on we have teams seriously challenging us this season. We can not afford dropping points. The starting line-up should have our top goal scorers from last season. What is happening with Minnies ??? we have to start with Queen. Good luck
