Sundowns Ladies share the spoils in Mdantsane

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies drew 1-1 against Thunderbirds Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

A highly competitive first half saw both teams missing several great chances but it was after the break that the game sprang to life. Melinda Kgadiete struck the game’s opening goal in the 58th minute for her eighth goal of the campaign.

Unfortunately, the East London side managed to level the score just nine minutes later. Both teams fiercely pressed for a late winner, yet in the end, they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Although the draw ensured that Banyana Ba Style has now gone seven games unbeaten, Regina Mogolola highlighted the team’s inability to finish off chances when it mattered.

“The game was a challenging one as the opposition was determined to thwart our chances. Despite having our moments, we struggled to find the back of the net. We need to work on improving our finishing skills. We will take this as a valuable lesson and use it to enhance our performance in our next game. With renewed determination and focus, we are confident that we can overcome these obstacles and achieve better results in the upcoming games,” the defender stated.

Bambanani Mbane believes that the level of officiating also had an impact on the match, “We noticed from the very beginning that some of the decisions appeared to be partial, which stirred exasperation within the team. Moreover, the goal they scored was seemingly offside, adding to our affliction. It was undeniably a complex and disappointing game for us. While we may have contested some calls, we understand that mistakes can happen in the heat of the game. It is essential for us to channel our affliction into productive efforts to improve our performance in the upcoming games.”

In terms of goal-scoring for Sundowns Ladies, Melinda Kgadiete’s strike brings her season total to eight goals, three behind Boitumelo Rabale who still leads the chart with 11 goals. Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Lelona Daweti both have five goals to their name, while Chuene Morifi has scored three goals.

Up next for Sundowns Ladies is a match against Richmond Ladies on the 3rd of June at the Sol Plaatje University Sports Ground. The kick-off time is 15h00.
