Coach Rulani has built a talented side that is in form, self-assured and on track to record their most successful campaign in the DStv Premiership. With two more crucial games in hand, before concluding this season’s league, Mamelodi Sundowns will look to seize the wins for a positive ending. The first stop will be at the Mbombela Stadium against TS Galaxy on Tuesday evening.
Saturday’s emphatic 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC moved the Brazilians to 72 points. This however, according to midfield maestro, Tashreeq Matthews, is not enough as he believes they can extend the record to 78 points before the season comes to an end.
“It is a great achievement but we have an opportunity to even go further and break it again. We have two games left and we can move from 72 to 75 points when we meet TS Galaxy. Then we have the weekend game against Cape Town City where we can extend it to 78 points, so it feels good making history and breaking records as a team, but we have the opportunity to take it even further,” Matthews stated.
Bafana Ba Style will be taking on a TS Galaxy outfit that has been having a great run of form which has seen them collect points in their previous four games. In fact, the last time they registered a defeat was when they visited Loftus Versfeld to clash against the Pretoria-based side where they lost 3-0. It was Peter Shalulile and Thembinkosi Lorch who produced the heroic goals of that evening. This time around, Masandawana will be visitors in the Rockets’ backyard and will look to get the same results in the return fixture. Matthews stated that it won’t be an easy encounter but his side will find creative ways to find the back of the net.
“We played against them not a long time ago and the scoreline was 3-0. of course, they will have more of the ball possession and at times they will go on to a low block where it will be a bit challenging for us to get through. We will find ways to get behind and in between the lines. We just have to make use of the opportunities to score,” he said.
In conclusion, Matthews encouraged the Yellow Nation to make way to Mbombela Stadium to support the team. He said: “it’s always having the Yellow Nation at our matches and obviously we would love to see them there, singing and supporting us. We would appreciate it if they came in numbers to support us on Tuesday.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will go head-to-head with TS Galaxy on Tuesday evening at Mbombela Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 19H30.
