Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were victorious again on their trip to Durban, securing a dominant 2-0 win over newly promoted Lindelani Ladies in Sunday’s Hollywoodbets Super League clash at King Zwelithini Stadium.
Goals from Refilwe Tholakele and Karabo Dhlamini in each half were enough to hand Banyana Ba Style their 14th win of the campaign.
Having conceded seven times earlier this season at the hands of the Brazilians, the KwaZulu-Natal side were determined to put up a stronger performance this time around. However, their resistance broke just before halftime when Refilwe smashed in the game’s opening goal for the red-hot Sundowns Ladies.
After the break, the Chloorkop side doubled their advantage thanks to Dhlamini, her second strike of the season. That was ultimately enough to secure a 2-0 win and a league double over Lindelani Ladies.
Tiisetso Makhubela, who enjoyed a superb outing in defense, praised the tenacity of the team, stating, “I am so happy to be back in the team and to keep a clean sheet. We faced a team that defended very deep, which meant we had to be creative in the attacking areas. Overall, we did well and I am happy with the three points. We are looking forward to carrying this momentum into our upcoming fixture.”
Nonhlanhla Mthandi was pleased with the test from the opponents as it allowed the team to think outside the box, “They came with a mindset to hinder us from playing our game. It forced us to adapt and find new ways to break through their defense. Games like these push us to innovate and improve our strategies, which will be crucial as we aim for consistent success in the league.”
The win means Sundowns Ladies have now secured their 14th victory of the season after 17 games played, scoring a league-high 66 goals and conceding just 10 times, the best defense in the league.
On the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart, Nthabiseng Majiya still leads the way with 10 goals, two more than Boitumelo Rabale. Miche Minnies has seven goals to her name, while Refilwe Tholakele now has six. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has five goals while Zanele Nhlapho, Salome Kekana, Lebohang Ramalepe and Asanda Hadebe have all scored three times each. Karabo Dhlamini, Chuene Morifi, Kholosa Biyana, Regina Mogolola and Rhoda Mulaudzi have scored twice each. Cimone Sauls, Melinda Kgadiete, Malebogo Shawe, Bambanani Mbane, Lehlogonolo Mashigo and Khunjulwa Mali have all scored once.
