Our Challenge Was to Convert Our Chances – Coach Surprise Moriri

The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski team won by six goals to nil against Tshakhuma FC in Polokwane on Sunday to remain part of the top competitors in the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired competition. Coach Surprise Moriri’s troops took advantage of the opportunity to score and made no mistakes as they bounced back from their defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

“Our plan going into this game was like any other that we’ve played before, we knew that we were going to create chances, our challenge was to convert those chances especially in the first half because we let the teams off the hook in the first half [then] second half it becomes difficult because you find that the opponent’s end up having a belief that they can get something out of the games.”, Coach Surprise Moriri explained.

He further revealed the importance of having an attitude of achieving victory before taking on your opponents by saying that “Before the game we knew that it was important for us to win the game. First to win the game [and] second if there is an opportunity for goals you have to score goals.”

Masandawana went into the first half with a 1-0 goal goal advantage let down by their finishing to put the ball in the net and let the pressure off the team, however a second half was filled with moments of brilliance from Sanele Khumalo and Musa with the coach singing them praise: “I must say that Sanele Khumalo and Musa [Mdhluli] on the right were very instrumental in making sure that we continue creating those chances.”

The reserve team is placed in a good position that could see them play in the semi finals this season in the DStv campaign, however it will not be an easy game against Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in their next encounter. “Going into the game against Pirates there’s only one thing that we need to make sure that we go through to the Semi-Finals which is a win, a draw is not enough, we just need to win the game.”, said Coach Surprise.

Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves play against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 15 May at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, the game will kick off 10h00.

@Muzi…. dont u think iit will be too risky taking into account that the third wave is starting to cause havoc especially here in Gauteng? What is happening in India is a disaster so let us play safe by celebrating Downs victory with our loved ones . KBY I remain

I said it before that all the teams chasing Sundowns will never reach 60 points and i don’t see them reaching 57 points, had we not drop points unnecessary against TTM,Swallows,Leopards and Celtic we could have wrapped this league with 6 games to go.We should show this teams that they can’t match us,and that we are in a league of our own,we should strive to make records that no team can break.

I can hear you Jaws Buda but I do have a problem with the way they treat us the supporters here in SA,not long ago on my Majesty The King and Queen funerals people were too many even on a EFF congress or campaign in Atterigdeville I saw too many people on that community hall and some were not wearing masks,so how about the supporters whom we can go to an open space and celebrate and wearing masks also, when you watch USA games on ESPN they are supporters there I think its half a capacity the only thing they wait is for Europe to welcome back supporters then here in SA will go back because everything we do we benchmark with Europe.
Even on the coming Euro games they will have supporters attending games, pls don’t get me wrong third wave is coming but we need a little bit of favour same as taverns which are always full every weekends and Govt knows about that but they turn a blind eye, mina really I’m tired of watching my beloved Downs on television eintlik its painfully.

The 14th League title is loading and the 11th PSL title is loading, its nice to be a Sundowns supporter, there is no stress, I can imagine what it feels to support Kaizer Chiefs. I am just saying!!

We won league championships three times in a row to set the record.
We won them for the second time three times in a row to meet the record
Supersport also won it three times in a row to also meet our set record
last year Coach Pitso also made it sure that we did it for the third time to meet our set record.
If we win it this year we will break our set record and set a new record of Four times in a row, a record that will be broken by us again.

These 57 points we have at the moment will be enough to win us the league! Amazulu has 50 points with 3 games remaining. If they win all their 3 games they will reach 59! I do not see them winning them all at any giving time! They will lose against Pirates or play a draw and this result will and over the trophy to us without having kicked the ball!
