Bafana Ba Style are gearing up for more league action this weekend as they look to extend their advantage at the top of the DStv Premiership table. Downs come up against a Maritzburg United side that will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Golden Arrows.
Versatile right-side player Thapelo Morena previewed the game and spoke about how the team is preparing to take on the team of choice:
“It’s going to be a very difficult game for us. Usually when we go to Maritzburg we are going to have to fight for everything. The most important thing for us as a team is that we have a process and that we are following our process, we take every game the way it comes.”
Morena has been in fine form in recent games, and has scored a goal and registered an assist in his last two matches against Al Ahly and TS Galaxy respectively. The speedy winger noted the elements of the team’s performance that he would like to see carried over into tomorrow’s encounter:
“Going into the game we want to carry over the aggression, the hard work and the willingness to play. We created good chances and scored good goals, so that’s the most important thing we want to take.”
“We want to be able to convert the chances we create, we know they are going to play a very transitional game so we really need to be spot on when it comes to our counter-pressing and dealing with those situations like we did in the previous game.”
Downs have been following a busy schedule since they returned to football and have already faced trips to Richards Bay, Rustenburg, Limpopo, Cairo and Nelspruit. With the team consistently on the move and having to perform at a high level, Morena alluded to the rigorous work that goes into freshening up the players for each game:
“I think as players and the technical staff we take our recovery sessions very seriously, we work a lot on recovery. As a player playing every two days even when you are at home you have to try and be fresh and be in the right frame of mind.”
Mamelodi Sundowns do battle with Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening in DStv Premiership action. The match will kick off at 19H30 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 202.
