Mamelodi Sundowns have had a great start to the 2020/21 season of the DStv Premiership. Masandawana is currently sitting on the summit of the log standings with twenty-four points after ten games and has only conceded five goals in all those games. Only three games in the ten that have seen the Brazilians having a goal scored against them. The game against Amazulu saw three goals scored against us in one game.
One man who has been at the center of making sure that the goals are not scored is Ricardo Nascimento. The Brazilian spoke about the good start that Masandawana is enjoying and said that, “I think we have a team that all helps in marking without the ball, that makes things easier for the defenders. At the end of the day, it is a team collective to defend and we have been doing that and it is our mission to make sure we continue.”
The Brazilian has formed a formidable partnership at the back with new recruit Brian Onyango. The Kenyan joined Masandawana in the off-season and has shown the qualities why the technical team signed him.
“With each game that passes our relationship gets better, he is a player with great potential,” said Nascimento about his partner.
With the busy schedule of the month of January, the defence will be hoping to maintain the streak of not conceding any goals and to keep getting maximum points and Nascimento emphasised that “With every game that passes, I feel that the team is more confident, the victories bring confidence and for us, it is to go out there and play well for the club and the supporters who are at home and can’t be at the stadium”.
