Sundowns Ladies extended their impressive winning streak in the Hollywoodbets Super League with a dominant 7-0 victory over Thunderbirds Ladies in the latest round, which took place on Sunday.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi shone brightly, scoring four goals, while Miche Minnies added a brace. Lerato Kgasago also found the back of the net as Banyana Ba Style secured a 7th consecutive victory and their 23rd league win of a highly successful campaign.
The seven goals scored also bring the Brazilians’ total league goals for the season to 92, putting them on track to surpass the 100-goal mark for the second consecutive campaign. Aside from having the best attack in the league, Sundowns Ladies also have the best defense with just 15 goals conceded this season.
Minnies, whose brace took her league tally to 10 goals for the season, expressed her excitement with the result.
She said, “The game was hectic because our opponents were keen to avoid defeat, but we have a collective charge from the coaches to win every game we play for the rest of the season. I am glad with the level of commitment in giving our all. I am also happy with the brace I scored and it is a privilege to contribute to yet another team victory,” Miche stated.
Lerato Kgasago, whose goal marked her second league strike of the season, expressed her satisfaction with the overall performance.
She commented, “We did much better today than in our last game where we only scored once against TUT Ladies. As for me, it is my first goal in a while and I need to work on a goal celebration. Besides the goal, I was pleased with my performance as I played the full game. I am on the right track with the team and we aim to finish the league season on a high,” said Lerato.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s four-goal performance brings her season tally to 14 goals on the Sundowns’ Ladies league scoring chart. Boitumelo Rabale remains the top scorer with 21 goals, followed by Melinda Kgadiete with 15. Miche Minnies has netted 10 goals, while both Chuene Morifi and Lebohang Ramalepe have bagged six goals each.
