Brazilians Triumph with Lebohang Ramalepe’s Match-Winning Strike

Lebohang Ramalepe’s second-half strike was enough to secure Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies their 18th win of this season’s Hollywoodbets Super League in a thrilling fixture against University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies on Sunday.

Leading up to the game, the Brazilians had been in excellent form, winning their last six games on the bounce and looking to extend that momentum against UJ Ladies.

After a highly contested first half, Ramalepe found the back of the net in the second half, securing maximum points for Banyana Ba Style and completing a league double over their opponents.

Regina Mogolola expressed her delight with the three points, as well as keeping a clean sheet, their 12th of the season. “The most important thing today was to get the three points because they are a very tough team to play against. The first half was very tight, but we were able to get the winner after the break. As a team, we showed great character and resilience to secure the victory. It is always satisfying to keep a clean sheet and our defense deserves a lot of credit for their solid performance. We will look to build on this result and maintain our momentum.”

Tiisetso Makhubela also praised the team for their tenacity and rising to the occasion: “Before this game, we all knew what we were going to be up against. UJ Ladies are a strong side and we expected a tough battle. However, our team remained focused and determined throughout. We knew we had to stay composed and take our chances when they came. Everyone played their part and I am proud of how we fought until the final whistle.”

Banyana Ba Style has now amassed 56 points this season, courtesy of 18 wins in 21 games. They have scored a league-high 81 goals while conceding just 12 times, boasting the league’s best defense.

Boitumelo Rabale remains at the top of the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart with 11 goals, followed by Nthabiseng Majiya with 10 strikes. Miche Minnies has nine goals, while Refilwe Tholakele has seven strikes. Lebohang Ramalepe now joins Andisiwe Mgcoyi with six goals for the season. Salome Kekana, Asanda Hadebe, Zanele Madonsela, Melinda Kgadiete, and Karabo Dhlamini have each scored three goals, while Kholosa Biyana, Regina Mogolola, and Rhoda Mulaudzi have two goals apiece.
