Mamelodi Sundowns stretched their unbeaten streak to sixteen games after a 2-0 win over Baroka FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening. This win capped the tenth league win of the season, making them the first side to achieve such a feat this season. Masandawana have now done the double over the outfit from Limpopo, having defeated them 2-0 earlier in the season.
“It was one of those difficult games for us, Baroka got three clear chances in the first half and the unfortunate part was that it was situations that we had discussed. We were fortunate not to concede from those situations. We managed to deal well with their transition from defence to attack, but we were still not shrewd enough in the moments we got. Our transition was a bit lethargic, nonetheless good performance from the group”, said Coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
In sixteen games thus far, Masandawana have scored twenty-six goals and only conceded seven in and are currently sitting on top of the standings.
“Denis kept us alive when we almost got caught with the throw-in. We created several chances and I must say I am particularly impressed with the second goal. We were a little bit nervous, as we did not put our foot on the ball and control the game by hiding the ball more. After we scored the first goal we looked like the side everyone knows and we took control of the game. Another clean sheet for Denis and the group, very good work from the substitutes. I think Kermit changed the complexion of the game, Kapinga also brought calmness to the game. Mshishi and Gaston, you know what you get from them, the combinations on the second goal. I think overall we did the job, we got the three points and the clean sheet”.
The Brazilians now switch their focus from domestic football to continental as they will be travelling to Algeria to face CR Belouizdad. This will be the second game in the CAF Champions League group stages.
