Mamelodi Sundowns have solidified their place on the summit of the Betway Premiership log following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows on Saturday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Masandawana closed the first-half proceedings with a goal and went on to cement their dominance in the second half when they scored three more goals to extend their lead on top of the log.
There may have been seven days since Downs’ last outing but coach Miguel Cardoso’s troops were soon straight back into their rhythm, dominating possession and territory as they hosted the KwaZulu-Natal-based side.
There were a few big chances in the early moments of the game, but the Brazilians were denied by a series of saves by Arrows’ goalkeeper Ismail Watenga. Eventually, Peter Shalulile – who came in from the bench to replace Sphelele Mkhulise in the first stanza – pulled the trigger but the Arrows keeper smacked it away. Luckily, Shalulile found the rebound but was fouled by the keeper to deny him a goal, earning the hosts a penalty kick. The shot was taken by Lucas Ribeiro who did not make any mistakes from the spot as he fired it in to put his side ahead at the break. The breakthrough came later in the game after Arrows had remained compact in their approach and denied the hosts by neutralizing their attack.
In the second half, Bafana Ba Style looked livelier as they predominantly camped in their visitors’ half while being faced by a wall of green and yellow. Meanwhile, Ronwen Williams was not under threat as Abafana Bes’thende was strengthening their defense and not looking to concede more goals.
Despite being denied in the first half, Shalulile remained resolute as he looked to add his name to the night’s scoresheet. In the 65th minute, he hit an acrobatic shot that went past the keeper. Fifteen minutes later he did it again to give the Brazilians a substantial lead. It came from an unselfish Ribeiro who couldn’t put the ball in the box from his tight angle and instead, delivered it to Shalulile who steadily received it to get the job done.
Teboho Mokoena didn’t want to be left behind as he struck the final blow in the 85th minute, with his trademark long-range shot to conclude the game. The Brazilians will now shift their focus to the Tshwane Derby which is to take place on Wednesday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sanibonani fellow members it’s been a long time not commenting on our articles because our webmaster really is not updating or posting the new articles and I wonder why the Management keeps him/her on this job.
We are always rely on the publications about the latest news of our team including the departures whereas we have our webmaster and this thing it’s been years happening even when our President was hear it was this,we were told about investigation on our ladies coach Tshabalala but no outcome yet maybe he was already fired who knows because our team is so secretive.
Lastly I’m annoyed about Hunt everytime when we gonna play with him he will cry about loanees that will not play against us as now he’s crying about Maboe and my question is why are they keep on asking us for players if he will keep on crying because he knows the contract they signed or he wants to make us a scapegoat on his failures. Even now Goss is always sitting on the bench but come this Wednesday he will be crying about not fielding him I wish Downs can stop loaning them players in future.Kby forever
Congrats to the boys for winning convincingly against Arrows, and to Coach Cardoso for always making excellent substitutions that result in victories. The man knows football and does not have to wait for half time to make changes even when things are not right on the field, this one is brave.keep up the good work coach.
Please coach, when we play pirates ,do not play slow defenders otherwise we will be dead and you cant play Allende and Mkhulise at the same time because the play sideways for most of the time, however Allende is better because he is good at marking players and spaces.
If you try the Tebza, Adams, Allende, Mettews and Rebeiro in the Middle with two strikers Reiners and Shsha up front ,you wont need to make subsitituions, perhaps at the back because if you start with Khoza ans Kekana against Pirates, you are likely to make substitutions earlier than expected
Guys why are our officials are ignoring the influx of supporters to the stadium even who have fake tickets are causing jam packed oneday they will be a disaster or stampede.
Spectators are not respecting each no sit allocated like in 2010 World Cup,our cars are stripped even pickpocketing is at its best and you mustn’t fooled it’s your fellow member he will rob you.
I used to go to Loftis even even the games during the week but now I won’t bother myself going to the stadium, securities are also corrupt if you don’t have ticket you pay hard cash nensangu bakufutha ngayo uze ube dizzy as if you’re also a smoker.
If you think I’m lying watch the game this weekend you will see what I’m talking about, the Loftus will be over the capacity mark my words.
What a great 2nd half. Congratulations to the boyz and the technical team. Shasha’s confidence is back and I’m really happy for him, at some stage I thought he’s done and he’ll never come back. Now I’m worried about Rayners and one can see that the boy is trying his level best, but things are not going his way. I think reading the game is one of the strengths of Cardoso, because his substitutions always bring so much difference to the game, and he doesn’t wait for too long unlike his predecessors to effect changes to the team, and I think I’ve judged him way too early and he’s making me eat my humble pies.
