Downs Gear Up for Their First Match of the 2024/25 Campaign

Coach Manqoba says his side won’t be resting on their laurels ahead of the MTN8 quarterfinals that are to kick off next week, following the launch of the competition on Wednesday afternoon.

With pre-season almost coming to an end, Masandawana have been gearing up for the anticipated return of football in South Africa, and to kick off their 2024/25 campaign, they have been pitted against Polokwane City, whom they will be hosting on the afternoon of the 11th of August 2024 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Coach Manqoba admitted to not know what to expect from this edition of the MTN8, having to judge off pre-season results, which he believes are not a true reflection of any team. He said: “I wouldn’t really want to say much because at this stage, it’s very difficult to know where teams stand. Friendly matches never really give you a true reflection of where a team is because sometimes that element of pressure is never really tested, and it’s always difficult to predict what it’s going to happen.”

Playing against a team like Polokwane City will prove to be hard, according to coach Manqoba. He believes that there’ll be more competition this season and their quarterfinal encounter against Rise and Shine will go one to prove his point.

“Coming to our game against Polokwane City, I think it’s going to be a tough one. It is a big deal for teams like Polokwane City to be in the top 8. That says a lot about our league now. It says there is a lot of competition. A team that had just come from the NFD is now in the PSL and had a very good first round of the season. I also believe that their coach is a very good young coach. We have played against him several times, so I know what he is capable of. It’s going to be interesting because this is a competition that has always been difficult for us.

Mamelodi Sundowns will play host to Polokwane City at the MTN8 quarterfinals, on Sunday, 11 August 2024 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off has been scheduled for 15H00.

Eish by the look of things it seems my team will not sign the eagerly awaited by us the supporters whose name is Feisal Salum.
I don’t understand why are we recalling Savreeda from Bolivia or its because he’s still contracted to us.
I know we’ve got more than five foreigners but Feisal will be a good acquisition because we will be playing too many games and Mokoena can’t carry us alone throughout the season maybe they’re still negotiating with his team I don’t know and the window period is still long, let those Downs fans whom are very close to the team push for that player we can’t let that talent go to another team I’m begging you guys.

If coach Manqoba can implement what he is saying then he is got my 100 % support. You can’t sign skillful and pacy players and then play 80% of your game at the back with your keeper having more touches than any of your infield players, that doesn’t make any sense. We have got many talented players so let’s attack opponents from the word go,now we can replace 5 players when the other group get tired we put in another fresh group,we need to instill fear to our opponents by hammering some teams that way we will always psychological edge over our opponents. This season Mabena must be unleashed,we can’t play age over talent.

I was always wishing that time to come. Only humble people can take sundowns to the next level. Thanks Berg for correcting the situation

I think since Esquivel is loaned back to his native country Argentina and Boutoll is asking to be released it will create a space for another foreigner which is none other than Feisal.
Nasir is not yet fully fit he can be loan out too,Mpontshane of Bucs did hurt that boy big time and what pains me not even a yellow card was issued.
