Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was pleased with how his team gave Wydad Casablanca a taste of their own medicine in the CAF Champions League on Saturday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The Brazilians gave as much as they got against the Moroccan outfit. Sundowns showed great resilience and mental strength to beat the 2017 Champions League winners 2-1 to ensure that all four teams in Group A are on three points apiece. Wydad struggled to accept this defeat which led to a confrontational FINISH. Jingles and his men stood their ground.
“Wydad are used to winning,” Mosimane said. “They know how to manipulate the system. They know. They pressurise the referees. It was the first time I saw referees moving out of the pitch, looking for balls. It was the first time I see the assistant referee looking for balls. This happens to us every time when we play away in the Champions League but I have never seen referees going out.
“But that bench pressurised them, the referee went off the pitch – go fetch the ball. That’s why the north Africans dominate this pace. We don’t know how to play with the north Africans. But we are getting there. We’re getting there. Do you know what happens to me in Esperance in the tunnel? The Esperance officials come to me directly in the tunnel. We’ve been there. We’ve been to Esperance, Setif and Casablanca. We’re strong man. We shrug it off. We should be able to know how to play this game.”
Themba Zwane scored a brilliant brace in a tough contest. Zwane balanced his artistry with graft in a match that needed both.
“The Champions League sometimes doesn’t need beautiful football,” Mosimane said. “You just have to get the result. But the guys are getting matured. Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda and Themba Zwane played it the way it’s supposed to be played. It’s about results. You’ve got to remember that results are the most important thing. We scored two goals, it could have been more. You also have to remember that it shows the quality of Wydad. They scored from nowhere. Even last year I didn’t see them scoring but they scored from nowhere. They scored a good goal. They are the champions. This game is the same as Esperance, Al-Ahly and TP Mazembe. It is the Champions League guys. It’s tight and closed.”
Thanxs sir pitso u r the realy coach we all lov u
Agree my coach. No more mr nice guy in the field of playing. All downs players must know that dog ? eat ?. Fight like man. If we don’t appreciate coach pitso then I don’t know what do we want as sundowns supporters/ fans. Pitso showed us all that he is not just a coach but a winner and a sundawana.
I’m always puzzled by this man of the match issue. Why always when we draw on our games never get a sundowns player given that? Like we won the match against maritzburg but motm dololo. This supersport commetators and analysts are biased and killing South African soccer. Players are given false alarm ?.
Like!! Thank you for publishing this awesome article.
Mr Jingles you are the best coach in South Africa, we Mamelodi Sundowns are blessed to have you.

To my Coach Sir Pitso, am not surprised with the North Africans. This Guys think they are better than Africans who are brown in colour or black. If you go back in history they were the one who were very cruel when it comes to Slave trade. They captured black Africans and sold the to Europeans. They didn’t take black Africans as humans who deserved better life like them. Now this days they are showing it in football thinking that we Africans from Southern we don’t deserve to win than them. This is their mentality so we need to be strong like TP Mazembe
Let’s not make the bad conduct ours it must remain foreign to us and just be the good players on the field of play and just follow the the right protocols to curb that should we experience it so that our case can be heard, lets keep our heads cool as we can remain professional for the sake of good game downs and just correct ours when times calls for it.
