Relentless Downs Pick Up Maximum Points at Home Against Siwelele

Mamelodi Sundowns have recorded yet another win at home following a 3-0 victory in the Betway Premiership against Siwelele FC on Wednesday night at Loftus Versfeld.

Before hitting five minutes on the clock, the hosts almost broke the deadlock when Kutlwano Letlhaku set up Cassius Mailula but the goalkeeper came off his mark to quickly collect the ball.

The ball quickly went to the opposite half where Siwelele made a box entry but there was no one to connect with the ball and find the back of the net, leading to the attempt going wide.

A few minutes later, Sphelele Mkhulise set up Brayan Leon with a cross but the Colombian mistimed it and couldn’t get the slightest of touches to put the ball into the net. Mailula also had a chance when Letlhaku delivered the ball to him through a cut-back. His scoring effort was not clinical as the ball went over the top.

A brave and well-timed slide tackle by Malibongwe Khoza on the edge of the box saved Sundowns from danger posed by the visitors as they looked to make a box entry.

Masandawana created plenty of scoring chances but were not clinical enough – despite their dominance – to find the back of the net. The two sides went to the break goalless.

A shot from range by Teboho Mokoena was the closest Sundowns came to finding the back of the net in the opening minutes of the second stanza but a deflection denied the hosts an opener.

After a relentless search for a goal, Masandawana finally made a breakthrough through Letlhaku on the 57th minute. Mokoena had taken a free shot at goal but his effort was denied by the crossbar. Letlhaku picked up the pieces and went in for the second ball to open the scoring.

Following a foul on Mokoena, Aubrey Modiba took a well-struck shot towards goal but the keeper jumped to tip the ball away. A minute later, an error by the visitors almost costed them but were lucky to have the keeper, again, who managed to clear the danger away.

Khoza came to the rescue again for Bafana Ba Style when he made a clean tackle inside the box to deny Siwelele an opportunity to level matters.

On the 79th minute, substitute, Siyanda Ndlovu, doubled the advantage for Downs. The forward took advantage of a bad pass that was intended for the keeper. He pounced on it to beat the keeper.

The hosts almost made it three goals on the 85th minute when Modiba set Leon up inside the box but again, Leon’s slide to connect with the ball was late.

Looking to take something home, Siwelele rattled the Downs defence a little bit but their effort missed the target when it went over the bar.

To conclude the match, Masandawana found their third goal to punish yet another Siwelele mistake. Failing to clear the ball, substitute, Tahreeq Matthews pounced on the visitors and send the ball over the keeper – who came off his mark – to score the third and last goal of the match.
