Coach Manqoba backed his side to emerge victorious in the 2024/25 campaign of the Betway Premiership, during the Betway Premiership launch on Tuesday afternoon in Johannesburg.
With the inaugural Betway Premiership kicking off later this September, the new sponsor hosted the launch of the new campaign. Coach Manqoba looked ahead of the new season, stating that the mandate is the same as last season’s, which is to win.
“Going into the expectations of this season, I think people will expect more from Mamelodi Sundowns. This season is about winning, we have the responsibility, the resources and everything that is necessary for us to win. So, we should try to win,” he stated.
The Masandawana coach went on to say that this season, he is expecting his side to create more scoring opportunities. With all eyes on them as the title defenders, he is positive that the team will have a good season and games will be won. He however admitted that this will be a difficult season for the Club, considering they will be competing in numerous competitions.
“What I’ve always wanted to achieve, was to create an environment where we create a lot of scoring opportunities. Obviously, we are expected to win a lot of matches in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) because of so many reasons, but the truth of the matter is our preparations are going to be a little bit difficult this season because we will be preparing for a lot of competitions,” coach Manqoba expressed.
“I also believe we have the team and the ammunition to really fight and make sure that we try and win the first trophy. The DSTV Premiership started and ended with us. Why not the Betway Premiership as well?” he concluded.
The Brazilians’ first Betway Premiership encounter will be at home on the 17th of September 2024, against their Pretoria counterparts, SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld. Kick-off is scheduled for 19H30.
