Coach Themba Previews Match Against Sekhukhune United

Coach Themba has backed his side to emerge victorious over a difficult Sekhukhune United side when they take a short trip to the Solon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday afternoon for what should be an exciting fixture in the DStv Diski Challenge. With only five games to wrap up the 2023/24 season, the Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will head to this game with the aim to collect all points on offer and maintain their first position spot on the tally.

“We are in a very crucial time of the season. We are just happy to arrive at this time of the season having something to play for. It’s good for the players and the team to get used to this pressure of having to be at your best in every game, knowing that the opposition would like to spoil the party. We are however not focusing on any of those things, we are just focusing on one game at a time. We have told the players that the biggest mistake would be to go too far ahead and already looking at the last game. the most important game is the one that we are going to play on Sunday. So, we put all our focus and efforts in trying to win that game,” said Coach Themba as he previewed the clash against the Babina Noko Reserves.

Masandawana’s counterparts will head to this festival fixture at the back of four draws and one loss in their last five games. That, according to the Downs head coach, will not make his men rest in their laurels. They are weary of what the opponents can do in the pitch, despite the results.

“Sekhukhune United is a very difficult team to play against. Playing them is like going to a dental appointment. They are a very physical team and they put balls in the box. They’ve got big boys who are very aggressive, we know that even from the first game when we played them that they are a team that does not attack with a lot of players, that’s why most of their games are not high-scoring games,” coach Themba stated.

“They draw a lot but they don’t lose a lot either. We will need to make sure that we utilise our chances and we don’t give them any chances because they’ve got good players and attackers upfront who are very physical. They make runs into the channels, they look to score goals and they defend very well, so we are up against a very good team that is well coached,” he continued.

The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will do battle the Sekhukhune United Reserves on Sunday afternoon at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 12H00, live on SuperSport.
