Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their magnificent form in this season’s Hollywoodbets Super League, securing a 3-0 victory over the University of Fort Hare in Saturday’s clash at Davidson Stadium.
Goals from Melinda Kgadiete, Karabo Dhlamini and Andisiwe Mgcoyi were enough to secure the Brazilians’ 16th win in 19 games this season.
Both teams clashed earlier this campaign, with Sundowns Ladies clinching a 1-0 win thanks to a Zanele Madonsela strike. However, the Continental Champions turned up the heat this time around.
A dominant first half saw the Tshwane giants head into the break with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Kgadiete’s third goal of the season. After the restart, Dhlamini and Mgcoyi both found the back as Masandawana wrapped up a dominant double over their Eastern Cape opponents.
Andisiwe expressed her delight with the maximum points and the clean sheet, saying, “We knew what they were going to throw at us, especially with their deep defending. We pressed very well and executed our game plan effectively. I am also happy to be back on the scoresheet and to help my team secure another important victory. It is great to contribute to the team’s success and to see our hard work paying off.”
Nonhlanhla Mthandi, who delivered a superb performance in midfield, praised the team’s clinical finishing, saying, “It is not easy coming back from a long break and maintaining the intensity. Our performance was solid and we showed great discipline and focus throughout the match. The way we capitalized on our chances and kept control of the game was impressive. I am proud of how the team came together and executed our strategy to secure a convincing win.”
The win sees the Brazilians reach the 50-point mark for the season, courtesy of 16 wins in 19 games. They have scored a league-high 77 goals while conceding just 10 times, boasting the league’s best defense.
Boitumelo Rabale remains at the top of the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart with 11 goals, followed by Nthabiseng Majiya with 10 strikes. Miche Minnies has netted eight goals, while Refilwe Tholakele has seven strikes. Andisiwe Mgcoyi now has six goals. Lebohang Ramalepe has found the back of the net five times. Salome Kekana, Asanda Hadebe, Zanele Madonsela, Melinda Kgadiete and Karabo Dhlamini have each scored three goals, while Kholosa Biyana, Regina Mogolola and Rhoda Mulaudzi have two goals apiece. Cimone Sauls, Malebogo Shawe, Bambanani Mbane, Lehlogonolo Mashigo and Khunjulwa Mali have each scored once.
