The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team were held to a 2-2 draw by the Kaizer Chiefs Reserves in their home match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts were the ones to pull the first big threat through Ntokozo Siquba, who had capitalised from Amakhosi’s mistake in the box, but his shot hit the side of the net. Kaizer Chiefs were, however, the ones to get their name on the scoreboard first. It was early in the match, after a foul just outside the box, where the Chiefs hit the net from a free kick to take the lead.
Masandawana did not give up as they continued to create clear-cut chances in front of goal. Due to their resilient spirit, the hosts were able to fight their way back to level matters through midfielder Tshiamo Masisi. Siquba had tried to dribble the ball past the Chiefs defence but was fouled in the box, which led the referee to point on the spot. Masisi took the penalty kick, which sent the Chiefs keeper in the opposite direction to make it 1-1.
In less than two minutes, Siquba, again, was able to dribble his way out of the tight Chiefs defence and crossed it to Masisi, who readily received it and slotted it behind the keeper to snatch the lead from the visitors. With the goal happening just before injury time, the game went to the break, with the hosts leading with a goal.
The Glamour Boys kicked off the second stanza with a leveller following miscommunication from the hosts in the defence. Despite the two sides being deadlocked, Masandawana continued to look for more goals to snatch back their lead. With under 20 minutes to play, the hosts were allowed to lead after Oarabile Booysen was fouled in the box, probing the referee to point to the spot. The penalty was taken again by Masisi, but his shot was too powerful that it hit the crossbar, denying him what would have been a hattrick.
Bafana Ba Style created enough opportunities to win the match in the second half, but in the end, they had to settle for a draw to conclude their 2024 calendar.
