The international weekend has been a hectic one for the Mamelodi Sundowns family. Masandawana had players doing duty for their respective countries in the African Cup of Nations and also in the Women’s Cosafa Cup final.
The biggest news to come out of the international week is the sterling job done by the following Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Andile Dlamini, Karabo Makhurubetshi, Lebogang Mabatle, Karabo Dhlamini, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Oratile Mokoena and Chantelle Esau. They were called up for Banyana Banyana to play in the Cosafa Cup which they eventually won without losing a game.
Denis Onyango got the weekend of international football of as his country Uganda took on Sudan and the “Cranes came out on top at home with a one-nil victory. Four days later the Ugandan national team lost in the return leg match to South Sudan away from home. Onyango’s national side is currently sitting on the second spot with seven points and one point away from group leaders Burkina Faso.
Brian Onyango was on national duty for Kenya as they took on the Island of Comoros in two legs, the first one was a home game in Kenya and they played to a one-all draw and lost the second game away from home by two goals to one. The Harambe Stars have three points out of four games and are left with two games to seal a place at the AFCON finals next year.
Lyle Lakay, Motjeka Madisha, Mosa Lebusa, Themba Zwane, Thapelo Morena and Kermit Erasmus were in action for Bafana Bafana also over the international week, as they were out to help the national team closed the gap when they took on SAO Tome and Principe. The first game took place at Moses Mabhida and the home side was victorious by a two-goal to zero margins. The second game took place in Port Elizabeth and up stepped Themba Zwane as he netted a brace to give Bafana a 4-2 victory to close the gap.
Peter Shalulile took the field for Namibia as they took on Mali away from home and the result did not favour the Brave Warriors as they lost by a goal to nil. The second leg will take place tomorrow in Namibia.
