Having only joined the club in the beginning of the year, Mamelodi Sundowns Attacking Midfielder Erwin Saavedra has already represented the club on the domestic and continental stage and added two pieces of silverware to his cabinet, being part of the DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup successes.
Saavedra made his debut in the 1-0 CAF group stage win against Al Hilal, where his sharp touches and quick movement left an early impression on Sundowns Supporters. Subsequent appearances followed before the Bolivian’s progress was halted with an injury picked up in Egypt when Masandawana took on Al Merrikh.
Despite missing out on the majority of the season, Saavedra was able to reflect on his first few months with Masandawana with pleasure:
“First of all, it was a different experience to what I am used to. However, to win two trophies is great even though I got them not in the way I would have preferred, since I was injured. [As a footballer] these are titles which will forever be part of my CV.”
“The coaches told me that injuries are part of football, and to me this is part of football I have never experienced before and it is new to me”
Erwin regained his fitness towards the end of the season and even got a few minutes to remind the Yellow Nation of what they can expect to see when the new season rolls around.
“I am only hoping to start the next season in the best manner possible, together we can achieve new objectives that we didn’t get to achieve this season.”
Despite his limited game time, Saavedra was welcomed with open arms by the Masandawana faithful and the Bolivian international expressed his gratitude for all the support he has received during his time as a Brazilian:
“Firstly I am really grateful for the support we have received from our fans, they have really given us massive amounts of support. As players, we really do need their support and we just urge them to not lose faith in us as we go for more championships.”
The heading is more of someone who has left the club
Yep Jimmy u right, disappointing heading
very disappointing heading (Saavedra reflecting on his time at Sundowns) would have been better heading.
we are eagerly waiting for his full season judging by what Gaston has given the yellow nation over the years he has been at Sundowns . Sirino has laid down the yardstick .
