Sundowns Ladies gear up for busy next few weeks

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have enjoyed a superb start to the Hollywoodbets Super League. From scoring 19 times against Golden Ladies and City Lads Ladies combined to stopping the unbeaten streaks of Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and JVW FC, The Brazilians have been in beast mode thus far.

Banyana Ba Style has accumulated 27 points after 10 matches played with nine wins. The Brazilians have scored 46 goals and have conceded seven times and boast of a goal difference of +39.

As the team embarks on the FIFA international break, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala is backing his troops to extend their domestic form into their national team assignment.

“We have indeed enjoyed a strong start to our season and the results have shown that we mean business. There is a long way still to go, but I am happy with the way we have dominated games so far. The FIFA break is always an opportunity for members of the team to showcase their abilities on the national and international stage. We would have loved to build on the momentum we have gained in the past few weeks, but we have to enjoy the FIFA break and take some time out to fine-tune our strategies ahead of the league resumption,” Kappa stated.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have been well represented in the latest preliminary 33-member squad named by Banyana Banyana Coach Desiree Ellis ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Morocco in July.

Some of the Brazilians in the preliminary squad are Andile Dlamini, Karabo Dhlamini, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane, Thalea Smidt, Melinda Kgadiete and Lelona Daweti. A few days ago, Rhoda Mulaudzi was called up as a replacement for the injured Gabriela Salgado of JVW FC.

The strong 33- woman preliminary squad will undergo a series of training sessions before it is cut down to the final squad that will depart for Morocco on 21 June 2022.

The Women’s African Cup of Nations runs from 2 -23 July 2022 in Morocco. South Africa finds themselves in Group C and will face three-time champions Nigeria, Botswana and Burundi.

Our goalkeeper, Boseja Sedilame has also received a call-up to represent Botswana at the July tournament.

Boitumelo Rabale who has enjoyed a sensational start to the season has been called up to represent Lesotho in the forthcoming COSAFA Tournament.

We wish our Ladies all the best!!!
